Here is a sample of the experimental product that the Storm Prediction Center issues to enhance their severe weather outlook information. Between 6pm and 9pm thunderstorms are likely to strengthen from Alexandria to about Marshall. As they progress east, under the cover of darkness, the severe weather threat will shift towards the Twin Cities shortly after midnight. At the same time, the instability, or vertical lift in the atmosphere, waning after sunset, may diminish the storm's intensity.
Let's see how this plays out. The local National Weather Service office has raised the thunderstorm chances for later tonight.
