Prosecutor Gaertner launches bid for governor
Democrat Susan Gaertner is playing up her experience as a prosecutor and promising to draw support from suburban swing voters as she formally launches the bid for governor she started more than two years ago.
Gaertner, Ramsey County's top prosecutor, says the state needs a fresh start after being mired in partisan politics and gridlock.
She says she has shown she can win suburban votes in four terms as Ramsey County Attorney.
Gaertner is one of two prominent women in a throng of Democrats seeking the party's nomination. She has been open about her interest in Minnesota's top elected job, first talking of running just months after the last gubernatorial campaign ended.
The seat is open after Republican Gov. Tim Pawlenty ruled out seeking a third term.
