Holidazzle kicks off in downtown Mpls.

The Holidazzle parade begins its 18th season in downtown Minneapolis Friday night.

The nighttime parade, which is scheduled several times each week between Thanksgiving and Christmas, has become one of the Twin Cities' most prominent holiday traditions.

The parade offers volunteers the opportunity to participate, and this year spectators will have a chance, too.

Leah Wong, vice president of marketing for the Minneapolis Downtown Council, says organizers want some additional feedback from the public this year.

"We're looking for them to submit their favorite character in Target Holidazzle in 50 words or less and why," said Wong. "We will pick one lucky winner, and their family will be featured in Target Holidazzle on the last weekend of the parade."

Holidazzle events runs on the Nicollet Mall from 12th St. to 4th St. from Thursday through Sunday nights, until Dec. 20. The parade starts at 6:30 p.m.
