As we get ready to close the book on this December it is noteworthy to mention that for some southern Minnesota communities the monthly snowfall has been record setting. Thanks to the heavy snow storms of the 8th and 9th, along with the 24th and 25th, several observers reported over 30 inches of monthly snowfall. Among those setting new monthly record amounts for December were:
Worthington with 34.6 inches
Fairmont with 36.3 inches
Lamberton with 36.3 inches
Such amounts all but guarantee a snowier than normal winter for these communities in Minnesota. The outlook to start the New Year suggest somewhat of a dry trend, but continued cold temperatures during the first half of the month of January.
