Moorhead mayor urges residents to 'be vigilant'

Moorhead Mayor Mark Voxland said the hard work of local residents and some cooperation from Mother Nature could make this year's flood seem like a non-event.

Voxland said the city is well prepared for a weekend crest and will begin what could be a long period of monitoring along the newly built levees and dikes while the Red River stays high.

"Be vigilant these next few days," he said. "This next week and a half is very important as we are trying to make sure it stays a non-event."

The Red River is expected to crest at 38 feet late Sunday in Fargo-Moorhead.
