Fire danger prompts campfire ban in Minnesota

Campfires will soon be banned in Minnesota's national forests as the wildfire danger remains high across the northern half of the state.

The Duluth News Tribune reports Thursday that the restrictions in the Superior and Chippewa National Forests take effect Friday.

Under the restrictions, campfires and charcoal fires and grills in all locations are prohibited, as are fireworks. The restriction includes all types of campgrounds.

Meanwhile, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources also is increasing its fire restrictions - now banning all daytime campfires in wooded areas on state-managed lands.
