U of M search for new president starts today

The University of Minnesota will soon begin the formal process of replacing Robert Bruininks as president.

Bruininks has announced that he will return to the university faculty when his contract expires June 30, 2011. He has been president of the university since November 2002.

The Board of Regents is scheduled to meet Thursday afternoon to discuss the replacement process, including getting a briefing from the consultant leading the national search.

The regents are also scheduled to discuss a "statement of desired leadership characteristics" for the university's 16th president.
