Though most Minnesotans avoided rain disruptions this July 4th a few northern communities were visited by very heavy thunderstorms early in the day. International Falls reported 1.20 inches, adding to an already wet start (3.04 inches on the 1st). They now have received 6.17 inches for July and the month is not even a week old. Others who reported significant thunderstorm rains on the 4th were Hibbing with 1.80 inches, Baudette with 1.82 inches, and Fergus Falls with 1.78 inches.
Record-setting amounts of rainfall on July 4th were set at Crane Lake with 2.79 inches and Park Rapids with 3.60 inches. In fact a Soil and Water Conservation District observer near Park Rapids reported 4.84 inches of rain on the 4th. I guess the silver lining is that there was little fire danger from fireworks that day.
Looks like more July rainfall is headed our way late Tuesday and Wednesday, then again over next weekend.
