Land O' Lakes subsidiary recalling 292,000 eggs

A subsidiary of Minnesota-based Land O'Lakes is voluntarily recalling nearly 292,000 eggs that may be contaminated with salmonella.

The eggs were produced for a Land O'Lakes subsidiary called Moark by Hillandale Farms, one of two Iowa farms at the center of the national recall.

Land O'Lakes officials say the eggs were sold under several brand names to retail and wholesale customers in Southern California and Las Vegas, but not in Minnesota.

Around the country, hundreds of people -- including more than a dozen in Minnesota -- have gotten sick from salmonella in the tainted eggs.

Food safety experts say salmonella-infected eggs can still be used if they are cooked thoroughly or pasteurized to rid them of any bacteria.
