Medical device manufacturer Boston Scientific plans to acquire a local firm whose products repair structural heart disease.
Boston Scientific, which employs thousands of workers in the Twin Cities, is trying to reshape itself, selling off some businesses and buying others. The local firm that has caught its eye is Plymouth-based Atritech.
Boston Scientific will pay up to $375 million for the firm. Atritech has developed a device designed to treat patients with atrial fibrillation, the most common type of abnormal heart rhythm. Theses patients are prone to developing blood clots. The clots can dislodge and eventually cause a stroke.
Atritech's Watchman device is designed prevent clots from being dislodged.
