Tyco Electronics plans to cut some 250 jobs at Eden Prairie-based ADC Telecommunications.
Tyco bought the electronic equipment maker for nearly $1.3 billion late last year. The 250 job cuts will come at a manufacturing plant ADC has in Shakopee.
Tyco plans to move most of that plant's operations to former ADC plants in Mexico and New Mexico. Michael Ratcliff, a Tyco spokesman, discussed the manufacturing work that's going south -- and then what will remain here.
"It is metal fabrication work, painting, some fiber optic connector type products," Ratcliff said, "there will still be some limited manufacturing in Shakopee but it will be more prototyping as an extension of R&D."
Currently, Tyco has about 700 employees in Shakopee and 200 in Eden Prairie. The company plans to move the Eden Prairie employees to Shakopee later this year.
