Legislators will be putting in some long hours at the Capitol this week as the House and Senate vote on a series of budget bills. Republican leaders say the bills fulfill their pledge to erase a $5 billion budget deficit without raising taxes. But DFL Gov. Mark Dayton, who wants to raise taxes on the state's top earners, claims the GOP is trying to balance the books with "extreme" spending cuts and "unrealistic" numbers.
MPR's Cathy Wurzer spoke with Minnesota Public Radio News reporter Tim Pugmire, who covers the state Capitol.
