General Dynamics closes Bloomington facility

General Dynamics is closing a Bloomington facility and laying off most of the 100 or so workers.

Workers have been making mobile computing systems for the military. General Dynamics says most of the employees being laid off are engineers who have been developing compact, rugged computer systems that can withstand combat situations. Defense Department funding for the project has been winding down and the company says employees were not surprised by the facility's shutdown. Some of the Bloomington workers will continue related work elsewhere. General Dynamics did the work under a contract with Boeing.

The facility will close in July.
