UnitedHealth Group suing over lost military contract

UnitedHealth Group is suing the Pentagon after losing the latest round in a battle to win a 5-year, $24 billion military health insurance contract.

The TRICARE South region contract involves health benefits for 3 million active and retired military members and their families.

A second contract, for TRICARE West region, is also in dispute. UnitedHealth originally wrested the TriCare South contract from rival Humana, but Humana regained the business through an appeals process.

UnitedHealth filed suit in the U.S. Court of Federal Claims, saying the stakes for military families in the dispute are high.
