Budget dispute moves from Capitol to courtroom

A Ramsey County judge today will look at which parts of state government will continue operating if there's a government shutdown. A shutdown would begin a week from tomorrow if there's no budget deal between DFL Gov. Mark Dayton and the Republican-controlled legislature.

And in addition to their differences on the budget, Dayton and some legislators have different ideas about how extensive a shutdown should be. DFL Attorney General Lori Swanson has her own interpretation. The court will have to sort it all out.

MPR's Cathy Wurzer spoke with our reporter Tom Scheck about the legal arguments and the political maneuvering underway.
