Shoreview city councilor petitions against Vikings stadium

A Shoreview City Council member Blake Huffman said he's started an online petition questioning Ramsey County's plan to build a billion dollar Vikings stadium on the site of a former Army ammunition plant site.

The city council itself hasn't taken a position on the matter. But Huffman, who has been on the council since 1996, said there are too many unanswered questions about the impact of a stadium on cities around Arden Hills, the expected host community for the stadium.

Huffman said he's concerned about traffic and noise, and about the impact of the stadium on amenities like parks and trails in the area.

"We've got a great life here in the northern suburbs. Before we change it, let's just have a conversation and really understand what the impact of those issues would be," said Huffman.

He also said he's worried about the financial impact of the proposed half percent sales tax county officials are pledging to help pay for the stadium.
