A couple of extra races will be run Thursday at Canterbury Park in Shakopee. Those races were originally scheduled for Monday, but the racetrack may not be open if the government shuts down at midnight.

Track officials want to squeeze in a few extra races, which would mean a few extra checks for winning horse owners, trainers and jockeys, before a government shutdown forces Canterbury to close too.

MPR's Cathy Wurzer spoke with Canterbury Park president and CEO, Randy Sampson.
