More details emerge in possible Rochester hazing case

The Rochester School District is investigating a possible case of hazing involving several students at John Marshall high school.

The district says the group included seniors and younger students at the school.

Dan O'Neil, chair of the Rochester School Board, said the incidents involved upperclassmen asking underclassman to dress a certain way during homecoming week. If the younger students didn't, the older student threw food and trash at them.

"Some folks will say you know, discipline is too tight in Rochester Public Schools," O'Neil said. "I guess I'd rather err on that side than on the side of kids felt they were being bullied.

School officials say no students were injured and school officials don't expect law enforcement to become involved.

The district's hazing policy is separate from its bullying policy.
