Senate Republicans vote today on Koch replacement
The 37 members of the Minnesota Senate's Republican caucus are scheduled to vote Tuesday on who should succeed Senator Amy Koch as Majority Leader.
The meeting is required after Koch stepped down from her leadership position earlier this month. She admitted to having an "inappropriate relationship" with a male staffer in the Senate.
The Majority Leader is the most powerful member of the Senate, responsible for appointing committee chairs, determining which bills are heard and overseeing the day-to-day activities of the body.
Most candidates are keeping mum about whether they're interested in the job. But several lawmakers, including David Hann of Eden Prairie, Dave Senjem of Rochester and Interim Senate Majority Leader Geoff Michel, have not ruled out a run.
Whoever is elected will have to address how the Senate handles fallout from Koch's conduct going forward, along with the 2012 legislative session and the 2012 elections.
Every member of the Legislature is up for reelection next year.
