St. Paul Winter Carnival Medallion turned in

Lange Wallgren
Lange Wallgren, of Osseo, showed the pecan bag that held the $10,000 medallion he found in Tony Schmidt Park early on Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2012. It's the first time he'd ever searched in earnest for the Winter Carnival treasure hunt.

The St. Paul Winter Carnival's Treasure Hunt is over. The medallion has been found in Tony Schmidt Park.

The Pioneer Press reported that an Osseo man found the medallion early this morning at the park. The county park is north of Lake Johanna and east of Interstate 35W in Arden Hills.

Lange Wallgren turned in the medallion. He was joined by fellow hunters from St. Paul, New Brighton, North Oaks and Cottage Grove. The five will share a prize up to 10 thousand dollars. Half of the prize money depends on whether the winners have a registered Winter Carnival button and mailed in an entry form for the hunt.

The find came after 11 clues were published by the paper. The clues have been running daily in the paper and were scheduled to end, along with the hunt, tomorrow.

The newspaper reported the find just before 5 a.m., and is scheduled to detail the search at a press conference later Wednesday.
