SW Minn. man pleads guilty to killing cougar

A Jackson County resident has pleaded guilty to illegally shooting a cougar in southwest Minnesota.

The Jackson County Attorney's Office charged Daniel Hamann with killing the cougar on Nov. 27, 2011. The office says his neighbor saw the animal run from a grove of trees into a culvert. The neighbor then contacted Hamann, who shot the animal when it left the culvert.

A DNR examination of the animal found that it was a 125-pound male, estimated to be from one to three years old. Court documents say Harmann was fined $1,000, and will also pay $1,000 restitution.
