Motorcyclist charged in child's hit-and-run

The Office of the Ramsey County Attorney has filed charges against the motorcycle driver believed to have struck a 4-year-old boy in a hit-and-run incident on Saturday afternoon.

Ernest Travis Jonas, 25, is charged with two counts of criminal vehicle operation, each of which include a maximum penalty of five years. Police arrested the St. Paul man in Shakopee one day after he struck Tyrell Baymon in St. Paul's Frogtown neighborhood.

The boy was holding his mother's hand, getting into a car to go to a park and celebrate his birthday when the motorcycle hit him. Baymon suffered a fractured skull. The motorcycle's driver fled the scene.

Baymon is in critical condition at Gillette Children's Specialty Healthcare.

The Office of the Ramsey County Attorney said that the tips from the public helped lead police to Jonas.
