Very intense thunderstorms prevailed over Steele, Rice, Goodhue, Dakota and Le Sueur Counties on June 14th this week. Many observers in those counties reported from 2 to 7 inches of rainfall. Red Wing Dam set a new daily rainfall record for the month of June with 6.37 inches. Even more significantly the cooperative observer at Cannon Falls reported 8.83 inches which is a new statewide daily rainfall record for the month of June, surpassing 8.67 inches at Minneota on June 17, 1957.
As a result of the heavy rains the Cannon River and Little Cannon River rose by several feet overnight on Thursday (June 14-15) and flooded a number of roads and fields.
