MPR News' Tom Crann speaks with festival co-chairman Brad Box about the 65th annual Deer River Wild Rice Festival.
• Wild Rice Festival opens Friday and runs through Sunday in Deer River and features a singing competition and free music all weekend. Country band Restless Heart performs on Sunday.
• Fifth annual Nevis Pig Races: Five hogs will represent Park Rapids, Nevis, Akeley, Dorset, and Walker in a City Pride pig race.
• Beanhole Days in Pequot Lakes starts Monday when four Paul Bunyan-sized pots of beans are lowered into the ground to cook overnight. The Bean Queen will be crowned on Wednesday. Free beans for everyone.
