The Cedar names new Artistic Director

For the first time in five years, The Cedar has an Artistic Director - and she's the same age as the multicultural music venue.

Longtime Cedar employee Sage Dahlen, 25, is taking on the role which includes booking bands from around the world.

For the past five years Executive Director Rob Simonds has handled the programming of The Cedar. But with the organization's 25th anniversary looming, he said it's a good time to start focusing on the future.

Dahlen has been with The Cedar for eight years, beginning as a volunteer and gradually working her way up the organizational ranks as a house manager, Simonds' assistant, and booking coordinator.

In a release sent out by The Cedar, Dahlen said she looks forward to "stretching perceived definitions of global music."

Dahlen starts her new position Sept. 1.
