The founder of a prosthetic knee manufacturer based in Pillager, Minn., is competing this weekend in an extreme sports competition in Los Angeles.
The founder, Mike Schultz, lost his leg in an accident in 2008 during a SnoCross event -- a form of snowmobile racing.
He went on to design a hydraulic prosthetic leg for intensive activities like skiing or horseback riding that would allow him to compete in SnoCross races again, doing jumps as high as 100 feet.
Other people took interest in his product, called MotoKnee. Strong demand compelled him to launch the company BioDapt.
This weekend, Schultz is using the knee to compete at the X Games in Los Angeles, a competition for extreme sports.
