20th Minnesota Fringe Festival ends strong

The Minnesota Fringe, the annual performing arts festival that presents dozens of acts on multiple stages, distributed 49,991 tickets over 11 days, according to preliminary estimates.

That's up from last year, when the festival distributed 46,280 tickets.

This year, the Fringe offered tickets were to 176 different shows in 16 participating venues. Not all tickets are "sold," however, as the number also includes comp tickets.

The Fringe Festival's best year in terms of tickets was 2010,  when it distributed 50,256.

What's in a number? By comparison, the number of tickets this year is equivalent to the population of Apple Valley, Minn.

Target Field seats 39,504 baseball fans.

The Metrodome seats 64,111.
