Prompted by construction noise and limited museum offerings, the Walker Art Center opens its doors for free through Sept. 21.
Normally visiting the museum galleries costs $12 for adults, $10 for seniors and $8 for students. The museum is free to members and children under 18, with free admission offered to the general public on Thursday evenings and the first Saturday of each month.
But museum officials decided to waive the costs, prompted by noise from a major renovation project replacing the bricks on the façade of the Barnes building.
In addition, the Walker is installing a major exhibition of art by Claes Oldenburg, which requires closing several galleries.

So there's less of the Walker to see right now, and what's left - "Abraham Cruzvillegas: The Autoconstrucción Suites," "Painter Painter," and "Fritz Haeg: At Home in the City" - is often accompanied by the sounds of hammering.
Visitors will still have to pay for artist-designed mini golf, film and performing arts events.
"Claes Oldenburg: The Sixties" opens Sept. 22.
