The Minnesota Twins have traded first baseman Justin Morneau to the Pittsburgh Pirates for outfielder Alex Presley and a player to be named later -- or cash. 


Morneau had spent his entire career with the Twins organization after being drafted by the team in 1999. 

 
"We all know Justin played a valuable role in the Twins organization during his whole career here," said Kevin Smith, a spokesman for the Minnesota Twins. "He becomes a free agent at the end of the season. Who know what can happen? He might be back in a Twins' uniform before you know it."


Morneau broke into the big leagues in 2003 and has played in nearly 1,300 games with the Twins, hitting a career .278 with 221 home runs. 


Presley, the player joining the Twins, has hit .264 for the Pirates this season in limited action.
