MNsure to be late delivering data to insurers

Insurance companies selling plans on the state's new health insurance marketplace may not receive their first batch of enrollment data until later this month — a few weeks later than originally planned.

MNsure officials say they're still working on the electronic transmission of enrollment and payment information to insurers.

That information is critical because someone hasn't officially enrolled in a plan until the insurance company processes the application. The system should be working at the end of this month.

Geoff Bartsh, vice president of public policy for Medica, said officials at his company had hoped to receive the enrollment data on Tuesday. But he said the company is willing to accept the delay.

"We have a shared concern with MNsure to make sure the information is correct," Bartsh said. "So we're working really closely with them to make sure that once that information and once those files start transmitting, that they're sent and received quickly and accurately."

MNsure officials still plan to unveil the total number of people enrolling in health plans during a board meeting on Wednesday.
