Woman charged in murder of Minneapolis man

Hennepin County prosecutors have charged a woman with second degree murder in the shooting death of a man in south Minneapolis earlier this month.

Authorities found 23-year-old Anthony Lee Fairbanks shot to death March 8 on the 2700 block of Longfellow Avenue.

Prosecutors say telephone records show that just before he was killed Fairbanks spoke with 28-year-old Maureen Ndidiamaka Onyelobi who provided Fairbanks with heroin, and who's now charged in his death.

Fairbanks had recently been indicted in a federal drug case along with Onyelobi's boyfriend, according to the criminal complaint.

Authorities said they reviewed jail calls between Onyelobi and her boyfriend, who allegedly told Onyelobi something needed to be done about a man prosecutors say was Fairbanks.

A search of a storage unit Onyelobi rented turned up a 9mm handgun that matched shell casings found at the scene of the crime, investigators said.
