Cargill shifting IT jobs to India

Cargill is turning to a company in India to provide information technology support services handled by about 900 Cargill employees.

Officials for the Minnetonka-based agri-business giant say the company is shifting the IT work to Tata Consultancy Services, a large software services firm.

Company officials say they don't yet know how many employees will lose their jobs. Some will stay with Cargill and Tata will hire others. But some workers will lose their jobs in the next six to nine months.

Cargill's IT workers — including about 300 in the Twin Cities — help employees resolve computer, printer and other tech problems.

The company informed employees last fall that it might turn to Tata Consultancy Services.

Cargill provides food and agricultural, financial and industrial products and services. The firm employs 142,000 people worldwide, including almost 6,000 in Minnesota.
