Charges: 84-year-old Maplewood man killed son over cable TV cost

Ramsey County authorities have charged an 84-year-old Maplewood man with killing his son after a dispute in their home on Monday.

Pang Se Vang allegedly shot his 36-year-old son at their home. Charges filed against the elder Vang in Ramsey County District Court say that the victim had recently purchased the house and that his mother and father lived there with him.

The charges say the father and his son got into a dispute over cable TV service. The elder Vang's pastor told police the son had refused to pay to get the service installed. The son suggested the father move out, and the charges say elder Vang took a shotgun and fired at his son, hitting him in the chest.

Authorities think Vang stabbed himself several times in the wake of the shooting, but was treated and later taken to the Ramsey County jail.

He faces a second degree murder charge.
