DNR issues high water warning for boaters

The state Department of Natural Resources says boaters should slow down on the St. Croix River and some metro-area lakes because of high water levels. And boaters should be very wary about falling into the water.

"The water is running high and that water is very cold right now," said DNR spokesperson Kara Owens. "In the last couple of days the water temperature on the St. Croix has actually gone down and that's in part because the air temperature has been cold and that rain that we had this past week did not help things either."

Boaters on the St. Croix between Taylors Falls and Prescott must operate at slow no-wake speeds. The restriction is meant to reduce shoreline erosion and property damage.

Keller and Spoon lakes in Ramsey County and Crystal Lake in Dakota County also have no-wake restrictions.

Updates on the no-wake rule are available on the DNR's website.
