Stabbed, one victim helps another hurt in robbery
Authorities say a robbery victim may have helped save the life of another early Monday morning.
Police say two University of Minnesota students were walking to their home in northeast Minneapolis near the intersection of University Avenue NE and E. Hennepin Avenue when a knife-wielding robber stabbed them.
Minneapolis police spokesman Scott Seroka said one of the victims, a 21-year-old woman from the Chicago area, bled heavily after the suspect cut a main artery in her arm.
"One of the victims came to the aid of the other victim by using her shirt as somewhat of a tourniquet," Seroka said, adding that once police arrived, an officer also used a tourniquet.
"Doctors at HCMC credit both the friend and our officer as quite possibly saving this young victim's life."
Seroka said the stabbing apparently began after the two women handed over a small amount of money.
Police are still searching for the suspect.
