Authorities in Elk River say they've arrested and charged a 26-year-old man who apparently faked a bike accident to steal a woman's car.

Gage Williams faces a robbery charge connected to the suspected carjacking in Baldwin Township, the Sherburne County sheriff's office said.

The incident happened last Wednesday night. A woman said she spotted a man lying on the side of the road with a bicycle on top of him. When she stopped to help him, he jumped up, ran to her car and drove away.

She tried to stop him, but was pushed out of the moving car as the suspect fled and suffered minor injuries.

Police said investigators tracked down the car at a home in Isanti County and found Williams there with the car and the keys to the stolen vehicle in his pocket.

Williams made an initial court appearance in Elk River Monday morning.
