Hennepin County authorities say they're lifting some wake restrictions on Lake Minnetonka starting Friday as record high water recedes.
Since June 5, the entire lake has been a no wake zone, to protect shoreline and lake side structures like boat lifts from damage. Starting Friday, wakes will be allowed for watercraft at least 600 feet from the lake shore, the Lake Minnetonka Conservation District said.
Speed restrictions to reduce wakes will remain in channels and designated bays, near docks and piers, swimming areas and near anchored craft.
Authorities think the new rules will significantly increase the interest and boating and traffic on Lake Minnetonka this weekend, and are urging boaters to exercise caution, designate a sober boat operator and comply with flotation and fire extinguisher requirements.
