Friday Festivals: Riverfest in Thief River Falls

It's Friday afternoon and this weekend we are stealing away to Thief River Falls, five hours northwest of the Twin Cities, for our Friday Festival.

This is the fifth year of Riverfest, which started off as a small venture by a business owner in Thief River Falls. Since then, it has grown in size and popularity.

Cindy Krankkala, one of the event's organizers, joined MPR News' Tom Crann to give him a flavor of the festival.

A few other festivals throughout the state:

The Pie Capital of Minnesota, more commonly known as Braham, Minnesota, is holding Pie Day this weekend. Head up to see who has the best pie of them all in their Pie Baking contest.

Bemidji holds its Dragon Boat Festival this weekend. Over 60 teams will compete all day Saturday starting at 8 a.m. and ending at 5 p.m. We are told there will be silly costumes.

Or get your hands dirty in Park Rapids. Folks there are holding the 22nd Annual Antique Tractor & Engine Club Field Days, where you can watch demonstrations of old farming techniques using antique machinery.
