One of the Twin Cities main sections of freeway will be closing this weekend.
Interstate 35W is closing the southbound lanes in Minneapolis from the Highway 55 junction on the north down to 46th Street on the south. The road will close at midnight Friday.

MnDot is telling drivers to detour to westbound I-94, then west on 394, south on Highway 100 and back east on Highway 62.
The closure is needed while crews survey 35W for a road construction project between 46th Street and I-94 scheduled for the summer of 2017.
Hennepin County, Metro Transit and MnDOT are planning a major upgrade to transit and freeway access, including a new bus rapid transit station in the interstate median near Lake Street.
Southbound 35W is scheduled to reopen by 5 a.m. on Monday.
