Thomson Reuters outsourcing may alter Eagan workforce

Thomson Reuters expects to outsource its help desk and related internal tech services, a move that could affect nearly 1,000 employees worldwide, including some 200 in Eagan.

Most of the affected employees are expected to join the firm eventually selected to provide IT services, said Thomson Reuters spokesman John Shaughnessy.

The news and information services company has about 6,700 employees in Eagan. It expects to select an IT provider by the end of the year. At this point, no jobs have been eliminated.

Last October Thomson Reuters announced it would cut 5 percent of its global workforce, about 3,000 jobs. In January, the company notified Minnesota of plans to eliminate 184 state positions.
