Harun Maruf, senior editor with Voice of America's Somali service, has broken a couple of big stories this year about the travels of young Somali-Americans whose families believe they have left Minneapolis to join radical groups in Syria.

He's a Somali native based in Washington, D.C.

Maruf was in the Twin Cities this week, and spoke with MPR News reporter Laura Yuen.
