The Minnesota Department of Revenue has resumed accepting tax returns filed with TurboTax.

In a statement, the department said it took the step after Intuit implemented new "targeted security measures" in its widely used tax preparation software.

The department said it would start accepting returns filed via TurboTax software again at 3 p.m. Saturday. The department will continue reviewing returns and will remain in contact with the company.

Taxpayers who have already files their returns using TurboTax don't need to do anything. The department says it will contact them if it finds issues.

State officials learned of the problem when some taxpayers reported that returns already had been filed in their names with stolen personal information.

Intuit says its systems were not breached, and it believes the personal data was stolen elsewhere.
