New information about a Coon Rapids shooting that left one teenager dead and another injured supports the victim's statement that it was accidental, authorities said Tuesday.

Anoka County Sheriff's Office spokesman Paul Sommer said further medical evaluation of the 14-year-old girl shot by her 15-year-old boyfriend indicates she was only shot once — not twice as initial reports said — and the bullet caused injuries both to her chest and head.

Detectives are still working to determine the origin of the handgun used in the shooting. It's unknown why the boy took his own life.

Identities of the teens will not be released.
