St. Paul officials gave the all-clear for people to return to their homes after a contractor ruptured a 2 inch gas line at Warwick and Randolph streets.

The fire department said the contractor was installing new gas lines to homes when it hit the line.

Fire crews rushed to evacuate 10 houses and three small apartment buildings starting at around 2 p.m.

There was no fire. Once the lines were clamped, firefighters checked gas levels in buildings before residents could return.
