Feds raid Minneapolis day care center

Federal officials raided a Minneapolis day care center Wednesday that has multiple state violations on its record.

The FBI and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security executed a search warrant at Salama Child Care Center, said Kyle Loven, a spokesman for the FBI in Minneapolis.

Officials did not provide additional information about the investigation.

"The details surrounding the search warrant are sealed so I'm not able to go into any of those specifics," Loven said.

Minnesota Department of Human Services has cited Salama Child Care Center since 2011 for several violations including lack of training in CPR, how to avoid sudden infant death and shaken baby syndromes.

The center, located on Nicollet Avenue in downtown Minneapolis, also was cited by the state in 2013 for cleanliness issues and meals that didn't contain required daily nutritional needs.

DHS said it found unqualified staff supervising the children. In April 2013, state inspectors say the center allowed assistant teachers to substitute for teachers in the infant classrooms for six hours, which exceeded the maximum allowed time of 25 percent of daily hours.

A Salama Day Care Center representative who answered the phone Wednesday evening declined to comment.

The center's capacity is 60 children from infant to school age.
