The Minnesota Department of Transportation says it is closing the road westbound and all westbound ramps so that crews can pour the concrete on the northern half of the new Snelling Avenue bridge over the freeway.
The I-94 lanes are scheduled to reopen by 5 a.m. Monday. The Snelling Avenue bridge is scheduled to be finished in time for the Minnesota State Fair.
Southbound I-494 and its feeder ramps will shut down between Interstate 694/94 in Maple Grove and Interstate 394 in Minnetonka while crews work to build a storm sewer.
That closure also runs from 10 p.m. Friday through 5 a.m. Monday.
