Archaeologists want help digging up St. Paul's past
Scott Weisman, Amy Ollila, Melanie Nelson and Stefanie Kowalcyzk sifted through a soil sample, looking for artifacts from the days before Swede Hollow was burned down by the city of St. Paul in 1956.

A unique archaeology project is just getting underway in St. Paul. University of Minnesota graduate students are hoping to unearth details of the city's immigrant past, long buried in Swede Hollow, along a creek east of downtown.
Shacks stood there for more than a century before the city cleared them out. And in a break with usual practice, these archaeologists are inviting the public to experience the dig first-hand. Details are available here.
