Two men charged in Mpls. shootings that hurt 6

Two Minneapolis men are facing charges in a weekend shooting in downtown Minneapolis.

Maurice Carter, 25, and Detroit Davis-Riley, 26, each face nine counts of first-degree assault against police officers. Prosecutors also charged Davis-Riley with being a felon in possession of a gun.

No police were hit, but six civilians nearby were hospitalized with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds.

Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman said the men left a downtown bar at closing time early Saturday and together fired at least 27 shots.

"They just kind of came out and started shooting," Freeman said. "The bullets whizzed by the police. They came close to the horses for the mounted people."

Freeman said the shooting may be gang-related, and investigators were reviewing evidence for additional charges.
