Chanhassen teen dies after synthetic drug use

A senior at Chanhassen High School is dead after authorities say he took a synthetic drug he bought online from China.

Alex Snyder, 17, died Tuesday at Hennepin County Medical Center, two days after Carver County sheriff's deputies found him at Minnewashta Regional Park having a seizure.

Carver County Chief Sheriff's Deputy Jason Kamerud says Alex took what investigators believe is a synthetic psychedelic called DTP that was ordered online from China. Another juvenile was with him, but Kamerud says that boy is not likely to face charges.

"At this point it looks like the information that we're following up is going to corroborate what others are telling us."

Kamerud says Alex's friend suffered ill effects from the drug but was treated and released.
