Woman killed in Farmington, relative in custody

An elderly woman was killed Thursday in Farmington and a male relative is in custody, police said.

Chief Brian Lindquist said officers were called to the 600 block of Linden Street just before midnight.

They found the woman, believed to be in her 80s, dead of blunt force trauma, Lindquist said.

A man in his 30s was arrested at the home. Police are not seeking any other suspects.

Lindquist said three people were at the home, all related.

Dakota County Attorney James Backstrom said Friday he expects to file charges Monday.

It's the first homicide in the city since 1972. The slaying is also the fifth in the Twin Cities this week, including two fatal shootings in both St. Paul and Minneapolis.
